It's Not Just About Super

Fledgling actuarial and advisory firm, The Heron Partnership, appears to have made inroads into the superannuation market with its focus on independent advice since opening its doors in mid-July this year.

Recently, the Superannuation Trust of Australia announced that it had appointed Heron as its actuary. Managing Director Christopher Butler says the company also offers advice to medium to large corporate funds, but declines to reveal their names.

Butler helped establish The Heron Partnership earlier this year with former NSP Buck executives John Smith and Wendy Barton. The firm recently expanded beyond its Melbourne base by opening a Sydney branch.

Butler says: "We've won four to five tenders over the last few months and we're finding that there are different requirements for different employers - it's not just about super."
